Howdy everyone: Wandering Man would like to have a 4th of July black powder shoot that evening starting at about 5:30 till dusk at Gamble Gulch Range. This would serve as a fundraiser for the club to go to the range development fund at a cost of $5.00 per person. Come out and shoot your black powder guns to celebrate the 4th of July and if you don't have any of the black stuff I've been informed that Wandering Man has plenty for everyone who wishes to shoot, and I'm sure that others have extras also. We really need to have at least 10 members to make this a successful event. So far there are four signed up so anyone interested in this please post here or RSVP Wandering Man @ paul@hampsy.com . Hope to see you there.

Sounds like a good idea to me!
If we have members who have never shot a muzzle loading rifle, and would like to, I can bring a rifle or rifles to let interested folks give it a try. Like Brushy says, I need to know ahead of time so I can bring what's needed. I must warn you, it can be habit forming!

Seems to me an announcement needs to go out to everyone. Maybe it has and I am just in a daze. So excited about the rain we got today that I can't think straight. Anyhow, you guys have fun and be careful not to light the place up!

It might be a good idea to set a date to respond by. If we don't meet the minimum number of shooters, it will give us time to formulate a "Plan B"...

Wandering Man ask me to post that anyone interrested in going to Gamble Gulch on the 4th of July for a blackpowder shoot need to let him know by Thursday, June 30th. That will give time for a plan B to be formed if we don't get our required 10 participants.

Wahoo, count me in on the BP shoot. As Darth Vadar once said, "You do not know the power of the DARKSIDE!!!" Will this be a competitive shoot? Will there be any structure to it? Will we start a brush fire accidentally that will make the Arizona Wallow Fire look like a beach bonfire? Whatever the case, count me in!

Hey, Wandering Man! Are you planning to shoot cap and ball revolvers, exclusively? Will we be shooting stages or just shooting? I'm trying to decide what to bring along...

I think we need to shoot anything blackpowder that you've got.
I've not developed any stage, but if the consensus is, I can develop three short stages. Maybe two with pistol only and one rifle only.
I've got a pair of pistols, but no rifles. I know you've got a rifle and a pair of pistols.
I'm not sure what Mainspring has. I think he has a pair of pistols and a shotgun. I don't think he is shooting BP through his rifle. And I think his pistols are cartridge.
Reloading takes a bit of time, so I think more than three would be pushing it. And, there will be some sharing that has to happen.

Ha! If we did that, I'd be cleaning guns for a day or two. I was pretty heavy into black powder guns before I got into Cowboy Action Shooting. I enjoyed building them as well as shooting them. I've got pistols, rifles, shotguns, and revolvers, from .32 to .58 caliber and most common calibers in between. Side locks, underhammers, inlines, even a couple "flinch locks".
I guess what I was asking is...are we going to shoot "anything" black powder or are we going to shoot cowboy type scenarios with black powder? I'd be glad to bring along an extra gun or two, if someone wants to try a particular gun, but I'd rather not dirty up a dozen or so black powder guns...

OK, here's the plan:
One stage, where you can shoot whatever you want, taking turns, learning how to load and shoot.
Two stages with three guns: 1) Black Powder Revolvers (10 rounds each stage) 2) Rifle - either smokless or BP (10 rounds each stage) 3) Shotgun - either smokless or BP (4+ rounds)
One stage for Long-Range Black Powder Rifle (3 rounds) Long range will simply be the Blue Buffalo where it is, unless we as a group decide to move it back farther.
Dress Cowboy if you wish, but no penalty will be give for City Clothes.
The Long-Range BP Rifle stage is open for discussion if the participants feel we should feed more or fewer rounds to the buffalo.
